Lawrence county, Ohio Sheriff reports future layoffs

Posted: Updated:

Budget cuts in Lawrence county, Ohio are forcing layoffs at the Sheriff's department.

Sheriff Jeff Lawless says the layoffs include five road deputies, one part-time corrections officer, and one part-time sheriff's dispatcher.

The layoff notices notices went out Wednesday, but won't take effect until February 22nd.

This not only affects the deputies and the sheriff's department but the public as well.

"Most of Lawrence county is rural so they're unincorporated, so they depend on the Sheriff to arrive and assist them in times of need and now we're going to have less employees that can do that, and it also means that our deputies are in more danger." Lawless said.
