The Mountaineer Military Museum is taking advantage of the
cold months to close its doors in order to do some major expanding.
The museum, located at 345 Center Ave., Weston, will get additional
2,300-square feet along with more displays.
Owners Ron and Barb McVaney said the museum usually
experiences lower turnout during the winter months.
Volunteers from various North Central West Virginia
communities are constructing the displays, and Barb McVaney said the majority
of the volunteers are themselves veterans.
She said the veterans wanted to be a part of the tribute.
Ron McVaney was drafted into service with a childhood friend
who didn't make it home, but Ron McVaney promised that he wouldn't let any of
his fallen friends be forgotten.
He collected hundreds of pieces of memorabilia throughout
the past 35 years, and when he retired, he decided to share it all with the
public.
A separate announcement will be made when the museum reopens.
