HURRICANE -
Hurricane Middle School eighth grader Robert Webster became the Putnam County spelling champion on Thursday, January 10, at the Putnam Career and Technical Center. Robert is the son of Rumiela and Jon Webster of Hurricane.
Webster competed with champions from fifteen elementary schools and four other middle schools to win the bee in the tenth round.
Lakeside Elementary fifth grader Rebekah Dimsdale was first runner up. She is the daughter of Elizabeth and William Dimsdale of Poca.
Both students will represent Putnam County in regional competition in March, where they will compete for a chance to attend the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D. C.
