The Ohio Department of Transportation District 9 says crews are out keeping roadways safe as a mix of rain, freezing rain and sleet hits the region.
Crews from Adams, Brown, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross and Scioto counties are patrolling and treating routes to keep them from becoming icy and slick.
The forecast calls for additional precipitation overnight and crews will remain on the state highways to treat and clear roads.
Officials remind drivers to use extreme caution.
Pavement temperatures are expected to drop to near or slightly below freezing after midnight and may cause bridges and elevated surfaces to freeze more quickly.
Drivers are asked to slow down and allow additional travel time.
They should also maintain a safe following distance behind other drivers, especially snowplow operators who have a limited field of vision.
