A North Carolina man was sentenced to three years and one month in federal prison for illegal firearm possession, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin.
Jason Alexander Thompson, 28, previously pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm last year.
Officers said they arrested Thompson in 2010 after they found a pistol on him in Huntington.
Thompson was prohibited from owning any guns because of a 2003 felony conviction for possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.
Thompson was also on supervised release at time his most recent offence, so the court added an additional 10 months to his sentence. This means he will spend close to four years behind bars.
The Huntington Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives handled the investigation.
