UPDATE: Victim's name released in Oakwood Road shooting

Police lights and crime scene tape; neighbors said these are all very strange sights to see in this quiet Charleston community.

However, when they heard drugs might have played a role and part of the reason Hai Nguyn, 47, was shot in the leg and the chest, they were not as shocked.

"I think if we devote more time and efforts to helping those who suffer from drug addiction or alcohol addiction, we'd probably cut down on the crime," said George Vieweg.

Other neighbors said they are more concerned about the shooting itself.

"We have a drug problem here in Charleston and drugs equal illegal guns.  I'm sure if they catch this criminal or whoever did this shooting that they're not going to find a registered gun or a carry concealed permit on the guy," said John Smith.

Still, investigators describe the Oakwood Road part of town as relatively safe.

"It's not a crime ridden community at all.  This type of incident is very isolated in this particular area of town," said Lt. Steve Cooper.

Detectives are still looking for the shooter.

Nguyn is recovering at Charleston Area Medical Center.

Charleston Police tell 13News that the victim, Hai Nguyn, 47, was at his home with his two roommates when they say the suspect came into the home and shot Nguyn twice.

Police found a gun and cash at the scene and believe the shooting to be the result of a robbery gone bad.  They also recovered a crack pipe at the scene and believe drugs may have played a role in what happened.

The shooter's identity is unknown. They believe the victim and shooter knew each other.

Police have not been able to speak to the victim.  Nguyn is currently undergoing surgery at CAMC General where he is listed in critical condition.
