St. Albans Rotary celebrates 90 years

Posted: Updated:

The St. Albans Rotary Club is still going strong at 90 years old.

The club was founded in 1922 and works to raise money that it distributes back into the community. The club will celebrate its anniversary Jan. 24 at Angela's on the River in St. Albans. The guest speaker will be Roy Lee Cooke, one of West Virginia's own Rocket Boys.

The St. Albans Rotary Club has made significant donations to St. Albans High School, including funding three $1,000 scholarships. The club also donates to Christ's Kitchen and The Jericho House. Members also sponsor "The Battle of the Bridge" trophy for the annual St. Albans High/Nitro High football game.

The club also puts money toward international projects in underdeveloped countries in an effort to provide drinking water, educational services and health care.

The club meets at noon every Thursday at the 6th Avenue Grill for lunch. Club members are mainly business owners from Kanawha and Putnam Counties. Those interested in becoming a member of the St. Albans Rotary Club can attend a weekly meeting or email SARotary@rotarystalbansusa.com. Written requests may be mailed to St. Albans Rotary Club, P.O. Box 881, St Albans, West Virginia 25177.
