CHARLESTON, WV — West Virginia's Division of Culture and History will celebrate the traditional music of West Virginia on Memorial Day weekend, May 24-25, at the Culture Center during the 37th annual Vandalia Gathering. The family-friendly event is free.

The touring Family Diversity Projects exhibit, "Of Many Colors: Portraits of Multiracial Families," has opened at Davis and Elkins College on Jan. 21 and remain on public display through Feb. 15.

Created by photographer Gigi Kaeser and writer Peggy Gillespie,  the photograph-text exhibit spotlights and celebrates the diversity of the American Family.

Davis & Elkins College associate professor of education Erin Brumbaugh organized D&E's display of the exhibit, which will be open during regular library hours.

The "Of Many Colors" exhibit has visited universities, public schools, houses of worship, community centers, galleries, museums, and conferences since 1994. It tells the stories of 20 families who have bridged the racial divide through interracial relationships or adoption.

The book, "Of Many Colors," has been published by the University of Massachusetts Press with a foreword by Teaching Tolerance magazine Editor Glenda Valentine. The book is available in paperback and hardbound editions and includes complete text and photographs of more than 20 families along with a comprehensive diversity resource guide.

Additional resources, including images, interviews, and other information about the exhibit and book are available online at www.familydiv.org.
