UPDATE:

The West Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has identified the two men who firefighters found dead inside a Nicholas County house that had caught on fire on January 21.

Evidence shows that the bodies of James Freeman, 63, and Delbert Cutlip, 56, were found inside the home, according to Marsha Dadisman, a spokesperson for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.

The fire began just before 3:30 p.m. at a one-story, wood-frame home in the 3400-block of Scenic Highway, according to fire investigators with the West Virginia State Fire Marshal's Office.

"The first firefighters arriving on scene found very heavy fire conditions on the front of house," said Shawn Alderman, the assistant state fire marshal.

Crews found two men dead inside the home. The man who lived inside was bedridden and was dealing with several health problems, according to sources.

Alderman said the structure saw a significant amount of damage. He noted spongy floors and extensive roof damage.

The Summersville Fire Department responded to the call, with help from the Wilderness Volunteer Fire Department. Units from Craigsville and Richwood also helped the responders.

Investigators have not said what may have started the fire.

The West Virginia State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating, but Alderman did issue a warning to all homeowners:

"With this type of weather and the onset that we have, we do see a larger number of fires due to home heating and appliances," he said.
