BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) - The West Virginia Ethics Commission has postponed a hearing on ethics allegations against Beckley Mayor Emmett Pugh.

The hearing was set for Jan. 28 in Beckley.

Pugh tells The Register-Herald (http://bit.ly/Xz6mSw ) that the commission postponed the hearing because it has to find a replacement for deputy counsel Martin J. Wright.

Earlier this month, Wright left the commission to take a job in the state Attorney General's Office.

Pugh says a new hearing date hasn't been set.

The commission filed civil charges last March alleging Pugh received more than $12,000 worth of ownership interests in companies in exchange for proving city contracts and free use of city resources.

The mayor denies the allegations.
