HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Poor shooting and a barrage of turnovers doomed the
Marshall men's basketball team in a 102-46 defeat to Southern Miss on
Wednesday in front of 4,106 fans at Reed Green Coliseum.
It was the 23rd straight home win by the Golden Eagles (16-4, 5-0
Conference USA), the fifth longest home winning streak in Division I.
They forced the Thundering Herd (9-10, 2-2 C-USA) into a season-high 31
turnovers and its most lopsided defeat as a member of C-USA.
"We did not compete from the top to the bottom, not one man, not one
guy," said head coach Tom Herrion. "That was as disappointing and
unacceptable of a performance by my team since I've been head coach."
A three-pointer by Elijah Pittman in the first possession of the game
gave the Herd a 3-0 lead. Jonathan Mills made two of his team-high 16
points to give Southern Miss a 4-3 lead just over two minutes into the
contest and from there, the Golden Eagles took control of the game.

for points in a half (Delaware State).

slightly less (49). The Golden Eagles' finished the game with its
largest lead of 56.
Junior guard DeAndre Kane joined Pittman in double figures with 13

career-high 11 turnovers.
Sophomore forward Jamir Hanner played 12 of his 18 minutes in the second half and scored eight points off the bench.
"Southern Miss is a good team, but we never gave ourselves a chance," Herrion said.

6-of-10 shooting, 4-of-6 from three-point range. Dwayne Davis scored 19
points for Southern Miss which shot 63.2 percent from the field and 55
percent from three-point range, the most allowed by a Herd opponent all
