Study says leafy greens top food poisoning source

Posted: Updated:

A big government study has fingered leafy greens like lettuce and spinach as the leading source of food poisoning.

This comes as a wake up call for health officials who want consumers to "eat our vegetables."

The study says that while more people get sick from plants more people die from contaminated poultry.

The results were released on January 29 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Every year roughly 1 in 6 Americans or 48 million people get sick from food poisoning. That includes 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths.
