Ohio University President: Class is on for Thursday

ATHENS, Ohio -

The Ohio University president is hoping for a return to normal, despite the ongoing search for an armed robbery suspect that was last seen running toward the OU campus.

Police say the robbery happened at a nearby apartment complex.

A text alert was sent to students to about the incident, and warnings have been posted around campus.

Classes and activities were canceled for the rest of the day, and students were told to return to their dorms.

This evening's basketball game has even been canceled.

Tomorrow, though, it's back to normal.

In a letter to the media, OU President, Roderick McDavis writes that everything is going back to normal, except that everyone should now be on the lookout: "The safety and security of our campus and community are paramount. The [Ohio University Police] Chief and I urge all members of our community to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings. Should you see the individual described at www.ohio.edu/emergency or other suspicious activity, we ask that you report it immediately to the Ohio University Police Department."

Students have been alerted by text to watch for a black male in his thirties, six feet tall, wearing a blue sweatshirt and blue jeans.

The suspect is also believed to be carrying a handgun.
