CHARLESTON, West Virginia -

The West Virginia Council of Churches is urging more conversations about gun violence and the role mental health plays in the issue.

Citing massacres at Sandy Hook Elementary, the Aurora movie theater, the Sikh temple in Wisconsin and gun violence in Chicago, the Council said in a news release that more focus on mental health could help solve the problem.

"We also feel strongly that we need to work to create a robust mental health system that can make mental health services available to all those in need."

The Council of Churches says their goal is to provide a "Christian witness on public issues..."
