CHARLESTON, West Virginia -
Kanawha County officials are warning of a potential scam using their phone number.
Officials have been notified by two Putnam County residents that the official county number, 304-357-0101, was used to contacted them and the caller asked for credit card and IRS information.
"Upon receiving this information, we immediately notified Frontier Communications, who is looking into the situation to see if somehow our number has been compromised.
If you receive a call from 304-357-0101 and they are requesting information regarding your finances, credit cards or IRS information, please hang up. This is a scam call and is not the Kanawha County Commission," stated Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper in a news release.
