HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall Athletics announced its 2013 football slate Wednesday afternoon.
The
Herd will travel to ACC foe Virginia Tech on Saturday, Sep. 21 after
opening the season with Miami (Ohio) on Aug. 31 and Gardner-Webb on
Sept. 7 in Joan C. Edwards
Stadium. The other non-conference affair will be at Ohio on Sept. 14.
Every game on the 2013 slate is also currently scheduled to be played on a Saturday,
however that is subject to change pending television selections. Four opponents (Ohio, Virginia Tech, Tulsa and East Carolina) participated in bowls a season ago.
"I'm
certainly happy to be renewing the series with a longtime rival in
Miami (Ohio)," said Marshall Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick. "This
schedule gives our fans many
drivable options and it will be great to finish the regular season,
once again, with East Carolina."
After
a bye, the Herd will face three of Conference USA's newcomers in
successive fashion as the Roadrunners of UTSA come calling on Oct. 5,
before Marshall's trips to
Florida Atlantic on Oct. 12 and Middle Tennessee on Oct. 19.
After
another bye, Marshall has three of its final five regular season games
at home with tilts against Southern Miss (Nov. 2), UAB (Nov. 9) and East
Carolina (Nov. 30).
Marshall's final two road games will be at defending Conference USA
champion Tulsa on Nov. 16 and 2011 Beef ‘O' Brady's Bowl combatant FIU
on Nov. 23.
A
schedule of televised games will be released at a later
date. Conference USA's national television partners are Fox Sports Media
Group and CBS Sports Network for regular
season games. The league's ninth annual Championship Game, pitting the
champions of the East and West Divisions, is scheduled for Saturday,
December 7 and will be televised by ESPN or ESPN2.
