Former Delegate Virginia Mahan, a democrat who represented Summers County, has been appointed legislative liaison for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.

"Ms. Mahan's extensive legislative experience and knowledge will be an asset to the department," DHHR Cabinet Secretary Rocco Fucillo said in a news release. "I am delighted that she has joined my staff."

Mahan most recently represented Raleigh and Summers counties as a member of the House of Delegates, serving from 1997-2012. Mahan was chairwoman of the Legislative Rule Making Review committee, the Equal Pay Commission and the Committee on Children's Issues. She also served on the House Judiciary, Finance and Rules committees.

Prior to her term in the House, she was a spokeswoman for various nonprofit organizations representing consumer and highway safety interests, according to a news release from DHHR.

Mahan has lived in Summers County for the past 30 years, and she currently resides in Charleston.
