The steel structure of the Dick Henderson Bridge, also known as the Nitro St. Albans Bridge, is being hauled away while drivers remember an old narrow bridge that served them well since the early 1930s.
The bridge closed in January as a $24 million repair project got under way. On Tuesday afternoon the first big section of the bridge was disassembled.
Officials said on Tuesday that the project is right on track, despite all the recent bad weather.
The bridge will be widened to three lanes and receive upgrades, along with a new deck put on top of the existing bridge.
