Cabell county school board members vote yes to getting a truancy officer in Tuesday night's meeting.

Board members voted to enter into a contractual agreement with the Supreme Court of Appeals and Cabell county judges to hire a full-time truancy officer.

The school will use state grant money to pay for it, but they say its up to court officials to do the hiring.

Board superintendent Bill Smith says the move is an effort to ease the workload of the court system and to help keep students in school to get an education.

The new officer may be on the job in six to eight weeks.
