Posted: Updated:

According to Gallia County Sheriff Joseph Browning, someone tried to steal part of the phone lines, causing damage to the poles. The outage affected around 500 customers.

If anyone has any information call the tip line at 740-446-6555.

The Sheriff's department is going to check with businesses around the area to see if they have any surveillance video.

According to Gallia County dispatchers, 900 pairs of phone lines were intentionally taken down by vandals along Bulaville Pike near the State Route 160 intersection in Gallapolis.

Authorities were first notified of the outage just before 3:45 a.m.

Dispatchers say the effected area runs from the intersection of Bulaville Pike and State Route 160 to Oil Hollow Road and State Route 554.

We are told AT&T is on-scene trying to repair the phone lines. This could also affect cell phone service in the area.
