Sissonville Middle School students learn about 'farm fresh' from Chef Dale Hawkins

Many people make eating healthier a New Year's resolution. By this time of the year, some have already abandoned the goal.

The Farm to School program in West Virginia is helping people stick to their resolution. On Thursday at Sissonville Middle School, students got a fresh-from-the-farm meal, all thanks to a group of local farmers who supplied the goods.

Chef Dale Hawkins, who prepared the meal, said it was an opportunity to give the children some homegrown nutrition, something they may not get to do very often. "I think the biggest reason that it's important for the students to be able to have this access is so that they have nutritional food on a daily basis," said Hawkins.

Chef Hawkins works with Fish Hawk Acres, a farm in Upshur County that also supplied some of the produce for Thursday's meal.
