UPDATE: Name of victim released in fatal Rand shooting; suspect arrested

Police have released the name of a man who was fatally shot in Rand and arrested a suspect in the case.

According to police, Donovan Taylor was shot and killed around 4:45 a.m. on Feb. 14.

According to a release sent to 13 News, dispatchers received a call about loud music on Emory Avenue in Rand.

Kanawha County Sheriff's deputies responded to the call and while en route were told that shots had been fired at the same location.

When police arrived, they found a green car crashed on Emory Ave.  Inside the car they found the body of Donovan Taylor.  They also found several shell casings from different caliber guns along Emory Ave.

Statements from witnesses led police to believe that Tremale Straughter was the shooter.  Police later found Straughter's vehicle on Route 60.

Kanwaha County Sheriff's Office detectives arrested Straughter and charged him with the murder of Taylor.

Possible motives have not been released.

Police will be increasing their patrols in the Rand area as a precaution.

Police are questioning a person of interest in the fatal shooting that took place this morning in Rand.


W. Va. State Troopers believe they've found the vehicle wanted in connection with this morning's fatal shooting outside of the DuPont Plant.



Deputies say the initial call came into 911 of a disturbance around 4:30 a.m.

When deputies arrived on-scene they found shell casings around a vehicle, and the deceased victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

Sheriff's deputies do have a suspect in-mind, but are not yet releasing the names of those involved.


One man is dead after a shooting on the 5400 block of Midland Drive in Rand, W. Va. that happened just before 4:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14.

According to dispatchers, the suspected shooter fled the scene in a Dodge Magnum with a black fender.

The suspect is a man. No further description has been provided at this time.

According to Kanawha County Sheriff's deputies, Midland Drive from Emory Avenue to Furman Drive are currently shut down.
