CHARLESTON, West Virginia -
Governor Earl Ray Tomblin handed over a key to a brand new Toyota Prius Thursday to the state's "Teacher of the Year".
Michael Funkhouser has been teaching for 32 years at East Hardy High School. He was also given $5,000 from Blue Cross Blue Shield West Virginia. Funkhouser said if given a magic wand, the trick to fixing education is proving to kids that they can be whatever they want to be.
"I think the magic wand is the vision to see what they can do and not limit themselves to a certain goal," said Funkhouser. "Set those goals and work hard to achieve them."
Every year, Toyota donates a car to the teacher of the year to travel the state.
