Veterans were making their case at the state capitol in Charleston on Monday.
The Department of Veterans Assistance, along with other groups invited service-members to Charleston for Veteran's Visibility Day.
The event was designed to give vets the chance to share their concerns and priorities with West Virginia lawmakers. "I want them to realize that the veterans need taken care of. In the hospitals, there need to be services for the disabilities that they do have," said Morgan Berry, a Korean War veteran from Buckhannon, WV.
Rep. Nick Rahall, D-W.Va., was a guest speaker and was presented with an award for his work to help veterans. Rahall received the award from the National Guard Association.
The Truman Award is in recognition for efforts to advance Guard initiatives across the country.
Rahall said receiving the award is an honor, and he knows how valuable the work of the National Guard can be to a state like West Virginia. Rahall also won the Truman Award in 2012, along with Rep. Candice Miller of Michigan.
