Kanawha County man charged in shooting incident; gun tossed away in front of school

Gary Lacy Junior was arraigned in Kanawha County Magistrate county on Thursday, Feb. 21, on charges of wanton endangerment.

Kanawha County Sheriff's deputies said his wife, Sara Lacy, told them she brought her children to meet her husband in Cross Lanes before school on Thursday morning so he could tell the kids he loves them.

Mrs. Lacy had filed domestic abuse allegations and sought a protective order against her husband on Sunday.

When the family met in a business parking lot on Big Tyler Road Thursday morning, Mrs. Lacy told deputies that Gary Lacy took out a gun and fired a shot into the air. She said that she and children fled.

Mr. Lacy also fled north on Big Tyler Road, according to the criminal complaint. He passed Point Harmony Elementary School, where deputies said they later found a .380 semi automatic pistol in front of the school. That firearm matched the ammunition casing found where Mrs. Lacy said her husband fired his gun.

Gary Arthur Lacy was arrested and charged with wanton endangerment, a felony.

He was also terminated from his job as a corrections officer at the South Central Regional Jail in December 2012.
