West Virginia State University held a mock drill on Thursday to teach students what to do in case of an emergency on campus.
It was called the "shelter in place" drill. The specific emergency that was emulated was a chemical fallout.
Since the campus is located close to some chemical facilities, officials said it was a viable drill. But staff was encouraged to use the protocol for any type of danger on campus.
"But we do take this very seriously, because in the event that we have an episode, we want to make sure that we take care of our people and that we have no loss of life or injury," said Melvin Jones, Vice President of Business and Finance at West Virginia State University.
Every building on the campus has its own safe room according to Jones.
