ATHENS, Ohio -

UPDATE: Feb 26, 3:12 p.m.

According to an email alert from Ohio University, the City of Athens has completed 'major' repairs to a water transmission line that left most of Uptown Athens with limited or no water service.

All Uptown Athens businesses have been forced to close due to health codes by the Athens County Health Department.

Crews were forced to drain the Highland Park water reservoir to a low level, as part of the repair effort.

Not only are residents affected, the nearly 17,000 on-campus residents of Ohio University are also facing the water dilemma. Multiple bathrooms have been closed on the Athens campus. University officials say water pressure is still extremely low and water heat continues to be shut off, to conserve water.

Portable bathrooms and cases of water have been delivered to various locations on Ohio University's Athens campus.

Officials expect the water pressure to remain low and the heat to be minimal for the next several hours.
