Stephanie Bond, who serves as a superintendent of the Rubenstein juvenile center, will now serve as acting director of the West Virginia Division of Juvenile Services.
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin appointed Bond, citing her knowledge and experience.
"She has done an outstanding job and I'm confident that the youth of our state will continue to benefit from her public service," Tomblin said in a news release.
Bond, a Clarksburg native, has worked in juvenile corrections since August 1993. She began her career as a correctional counselor at the West Virginia Industrial Home for Youth. Throughout her career, she held several other positions such as unit manager and assistant superintendent of treatment of programs.
She was appointed as superintendent of the Rubenstein center in 2004.
Bond earned her bachelor's in criminal justice from Fairmont State College and her master's in counseling from West Virginia University.
