Posted: Updated:

Investigators have identified the victim killed in a house fire over the weekend.

Boone County Police tell 13NEWS 18-year-old Rocky Steele was home with his girlfriend and father at the time of the fire.

Steele's father made it out of the home safely, and his girlfriend was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation.

At this point, police believe the fire was accidental, but they said they are waiting on the final word from the state fire marshal.

The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a fatal fire that broke out just before 6 a.m. Sunday, March 3rd in the Twin Poplars area of Orgas, W. Va.

According to Assistant State Fire Marshal Shawn L. Alderman, three people were in the house at the time of the fire. An 18-year-old man died, a woman was taken to a hospital in Charleston to be treated for smoke inhalation, and the third person was able to escape uninjured.

Firefighters believe the man may have gotten out after the fire erupted, and went back into the home.

A possible cause of the fire could have been smoking inside, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office. There were no smoke detectors in the house.

Whitesville and Racine fire departments were able to get the fire out quickly.

The home was unsalvageable.
