National nonprofit commits to placing 300 top leaders with 100Kin10 partner organizations
Oakland, CA (PRWEB) March 06, 2013
Education Pioneers, a national nonprofit organization operating in 16 cities nationwide, today announced that it has been accepted as a partner in 100Kin10, a multi-sector partnership addressing the national imperative to train 100,000 science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) teachers by 2021.
Education Pioneers has committed to support the 100Kin10 movement by placing 300+ leaders with 100Kin10 partners through its Graduate School Fellowship, Analyst Fellowship and Alumni network by 2016, to build the leadership, management and analytic capacity of 100Kin10 organizations to successfully recruit, prepare and retain 100,000 STEM teachers.
“Transforming U.S. education into a high performing sector where every child receives a high-quality education is the most critical challenge our nation faces,” said Scott Morgan, Founder and CEO of Education Pioneers. “Ensuring that every child has a strong foundation in science, technology, engineering and math is vital, and we’re excited to support the innovations and new programs that our partner organizations are launching as part of the 100Kin10 movement.”
Education Pioneers, as one of the 159 100Kin10 partners unified by this goal – along with diverse organizations such as the American Federation of Teachers, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Boston College, Citizen Schools, Google, NASA and the New York City Department of Education – sees educational leadership as a key lever in transforming the education sector.
Recruiting, preparing and retaining top STEM teachers requires having strong educational leaders to support them and their work. The power of top leaders and managers lies in what they can do during their careers to build strong systems to support teachers and principals, and in the multiplier effect they can have on others to join the important work of preparing all students with high-quality STEM knowledge and skills that equip them for success in college and the global economy.
100Kin10 is welcoming its new partners with nine regional events, beginning in New York City and rippling around the country to DC, Boston, Chicago, Austin, Denver, Phoenix, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Tonight’s party in San Francisco, which will honor Education Pioneers and other San Francisco Bay Area new partners, is being hosted by IDEO.
Organizations are accepted as 100Kin10 partners following a rigorous vetting process conducted by the University of Chicago, which reviews the innovation and boldness of each organization’s commitment toward expanding, improving and retaining the best of the nation’s STEM teaching force, or building the 100Kin10 movement.
Each nominated organization must demonstrate its unique resources and a proven ability to deploy those assets creatively and strategically to address the nation’s shortage of STEM teachers and ensure high-quality STEM learning for all students. A complete list of partners is available on the 100Kin10 website.
All partners bring content expertise and programmatic or funding capacity to advance the initiative. As they fulfill their ambitious commitments and work together to spark innovation, they have access to exclusive opportunities, including competitive research grants, leading-practice case studies, capacity-building workshops, collaboration grants, and a funding marketplace. To date, 28 partners have engaged in joint problem-solving or new, collective work as a result of 13 collaboration grants, and more than 32 innovation grants have been awarded to 22 different 100Kin10 partners.
