Charleston hosted a job fair on Wednesday aimed at encouraging employers to hire more United States military veterans.
The event gave more than 30 employers a chance to hire people in across the region who have military experience. It was one of 420 hiring fairs held nationwide that focus on hiring veterans.
Those who attended the job fair said that these kinds of events are a great way to show appreciation for people who have served the country. "I think it's really good for service members, you know. Some people, it's hard to find jobs now in the economy, and so I think it's great for military and all branches to be able to come here," said Samuel Stamper, an Army veteran.
The Hiring Our Heroes program is sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and plans to hire 500,000 veterans and military spouses by 2014.
