Protea Biosciences Group Inc. has added Thijs Spoor and Josiah T. Austin to the company's board of directors.

Spoor is currently chairman of the board, CEO and president of FluoroPharma Medical Inc. 

He previously held the title of chief financial officer for Sunstone BioSciences and worked as a strategy consultant at Oliver Wyman, focusing on helping pharmaceutical and medical device companies. 

He also has been an equity research analyst at J.P. Morgan and Credit Suisse covering the biotechnology and medical device industries. He worked in the pharmaceutical industry, spending 10 years with Amersham/GE Healthcare, where he held various operating and strategy roles.

He has a nuclear pharmacy degree from the University of Toronto as well as an MBA from Columbia University with concentrations in finance and accounting. He has been a guest lecturer at Columbia Business School, Kings College in London and the University of Newcastle in Australia.

Austin is the managing member of El Coronado Holdings, a privately owned investment holding company that invests in public and private companies. He and his family own and operate agricultural properties in Arizona, Montana and Mexico through El Coronado Ranch & Cattle Co. and other entities.

He previously served on the board of directors of Monterey Bay Bancorp of Watsonville, Calif., and is a former board member of New York Bancorp Inc. and North Fork Bancorporation.

He became a director of Goodrich Petroleum Inc. in 2002 and was named to the board of directors of Novogen Ltd. in September 2010. He also serves as a trustee of the Cuenca Los Ojos Foundation Trust, a non-profit organization working to preserve and restore the biodiversity of the borderland between the United States and Mexico through land protection, habitat restoration and wildlife reintroduction.

He graduated from the University of Denver with a bachelor of science degree in finance in 1971.
