COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) - The Northern Kentucky Independent Health Department has confirmed a second death this year from the flu.
Department spokeswoman Emily Gresham Wherle told The Kentucky Enquirer (http://bit.ly/VKJmEJ) on Wednesday that a middle-aged Campbell County woman died from complications caused by the virus. She said the woman, who was not identified, did not have any underlying health problems.
It was the second flu-related death in northern Kentucky this year. A Campbell County man died in January from flu complications.
The agency said the number of flu cases increased so much this season that a new record was set with a total of 2,712 cases reported by March 2. Last year, only 284 people in Boone, Campbell, Grant and Kenton tested positive for the flu.
