Roane County family trying to rebuild after weekend fire

Posted: Updated:

A family is trying to rebuild after they lost almost everything in a weekend fire.

It happened on Frame Road in Roane County.

Robin Schoolcraft said she was on her way home when she noticed it was on fire.

Despite losing clothes, family pictures, and household items, she said she is grateful her daughter and father were not inside when the blaze happened.

"We was like within five minutes. We were walking out my aunt's door to come back up here," she said.

She said her nine-year-old daughter Nikki is the one being the rock right now.

"She sees me crying and she sees her papa crying, and I think she is trying to hide her feelings to make us better" she said.

The community support has been tremendous, she said.

People have donated more than $400 since the fire. But, they're still without a place to live.

To make matters worse, almost everything on her property was new. They just moved here.

Schoolcraft has set up the 'Robin Schoolcraft Fund' at Poca Valley Bank. She's trying to raise enough money to buy another used mobile home so she can keep her family together.

She said a used mobile home with three bedrooms will cost up to $4,000.

"Thank you. Thanks again for those who have helped and who are going to help to help with me and my daughter and my dad to stay together," she said.
