As many as one in five American children under the age of 17 has a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year, according to a new federal report.
A fire department in Kanawha County is now better equipped to find people who may be in danger.
During a ceremony on Thursday morning, The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation donated a T-3 Max Bundle thermal imaging camera worth $11,000 to the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department. The camera has the ability to detect body heat and hot spots.
Firefighters said it has a very practical application that could save lives. "When there is somebody still trapped inside the building, this will help us locate them faster and get them out," said Jason Wurster with the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department.
The Firehouse Subs Foundation has given nearly $6 million to first responders in 36 states including more than $11,000 in West Virginia.
