Several brush fires were burning across the Tri-State area on Friday afternoon.
The West Virginia State Police and the state Fire Marshal's Office were called in to investigation one blaze in Wayne County.
It was burning on Union Ridge Road near Beech Fork Lake.
Emergency dispatchers said that they started getting calls at about 3 p.m. Friday about a large part of the hillside on fire. Firefighters spread out along the area in an effort to get the blaze under control.
Stormtracker 13 Chief Meteorologist Spencer Adkins said that conditions have been dry, but rain in the forecast for the next few days will help to combat brush fires in the region. "The rain will certainly help to improve conditions across the region, but people should still remain cautious about any outdoor burning," said Adkins.
West Virginia's Spring Fire Season began on March 1 and will continue through May 31. During the months of March, April and May, all outdoor burning is prohibited from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
