Four men and a woman were arrested Saturday afternoon, March 16, during a drug bust in the Ashton, Hannan area of Mason County, W. Va.

According to Mason County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call. When they got to the home, they saw a man throw something on the ground outside the house. Officers identified it as a controlled substance.

Deputies then conducted a search of the home and discovered a "destructive device" and several firearms in the home. The Bomb Squad was called to remove the device.

A 20-month-old child was inside the residence at the time and was taken by Child Protective Services.

Deputies arrested Joshua Smith, 23, of Ashton, W. Va., Mathew Gibson, 24, of Ashton, W. Va., John Cornell, 22, of Apple Grove, W. Va., Michael Mayes, 47, of Ashton, W. Va., and Krista Aeiker, of Ashton, W. Va. in a home along Keister Avenue in Hannan.

Smith, Cornell, and Mayes are charged with possession of a controlled substance and child abuse with risk of serious injury.

Mason County Sheriff's deputies are investigating.
