Along the Elk River when people see rising water levels they jump into action. In this part of our region, people living along the banks are no strangers to flooding waters.
"Don't enter any water. There's nothing that important," said Clendenin Fire Chief Kevin Clendenin. "In this situation, we have a good indication of the storms coming in."
Crews said they are ready for what the river will bring them.
Construction on the Heartland Bridge in Clay is stopped until the weather clears up, and the current isn't slowing down.
In Clendenin and Blue Creek, roads are becoming dangerous. Yards are taking in water as well.
Chief Clendenin said to stay on high alert. "You still get the occasional, you know, someone who doesn't heed the warnings, thinks they're invincible, and then we get in trouble," he said.
As always, Clendenin, advises to stay off of water covered roads, even if you think the water is shallow.
Clendenin said if you feel threatened at all by rising water levels near your home, play it safe and head to higher ground.
Crews also said to call your non-emergency 911 centers to alert dispatchers of flooding areas.
