More than 1,200 customers in Cabell County were without electricity on Wednesday evening according to the AEP web site.
It may have all started after a transformer blew, according to emergency dispatchers. A brush fire sparked in the same area near McComas road around the same time.
Crews used leaf blowers and water hoses to contain the fire they said was an acre wide. The fire is now under control, but AEP crews have been called to the scene.
Windy and dry conditions have fueled a number of brush fires across the region in recent days. A red flag warning was in effect for much of Wednesday, but expired at 5:30 p.m.
Officials continue to urge caution for any outdoor burning. West Virginia's spring fire season started March 1 and runs through May 31. During the months of March, April and May, all outdoor burning is prohibited from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
