A man is recovering at Charleston Area Medical Center following an early morning accident.
Authorities said Tim Echols, of Poca, fell asleep behind the wheel of his pickup truck as he was driving on Route 25 in Putnam County.
It happened right in front of the Pilot truck stop.
Echols smashed into the back of a semi-truck that was parked on the side of the road.
This is the third accident of its kind that has happened in the area within the past month.
Ken Rappette is a truck driver who frequently stops at Pilot to sleep. He said the parking lot fills up quickly, forcing some drivers park on the side of the road.
"I personally wouldn't park on the side of the road just because there's so much traffic out here," he said.
Still, some drivers don't have a choice.
Authorities said it is perfectly legal for truck drivers to park on the side of the road.
It took firefighters almost an hour to rescue Echols from his truck.
Echols suffered serious chest injuries.
No one else was injured in the accident.
