MARTINSBURG (AP) -
A former Eastern Regional Jail administrator claims he was fired because he was a whistleblower.
Lewis W. Barlow has filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority, according to The Journal in Martinsburg.
Barlow said he was fired in retaliation for reporting possible crimes at the jail to former high-ranking authority officials. The allegations included correctional officers smuggling drugs into the jail and giving them to female inmates in exchange for sexual favors.
He served as the jail's administrator from June 2008 until he was fired Jan. 19, 2010.
The authority is under the state Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety, which declined to comment on the lawsuit.
