Families in St. Albans neighborhood band together to combat recent thefts

Posted: Updated:

Residents in one Kanawha County neighborhood claim they have endured several burglaries in March. Now, they're fighting back.

Families along Birch Street in St. Albans contacted WOWK 13News. They said they've seen thousands of dollars worth of children's motor bikes and other items stolen.

Police are investigating, but so far, they've come up empty-handed. Now, neighbors are putting up flyers and walking the area to make sure the thieves don't come back.

David Watson locks his St. Albans shed now. A newer, heavier duty lock is being used to avoid future thefts. "They've been taking a lot of tools and four-wheelers and dirt bikes," said Watson.

Watson fears that his property will be broken into again. He said he has started legally carrying a handgun to protect himself.
