    Alpha Natural Resources announced July 31 that 11 affiliated coal mines and other facilities in West Virginia could be idled by mid-October, potentially causing 1,100 to be laid off.

Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. will perform his first concert at the Charleston Municipal Auditorium Saturday, April 6, at 7 p.m. The concert is a benefit for the Community Music Association and Junior Achievement of West Virginia.

"I'm honored to help raise funds for Junior Achievement of West Virginia and for my friends at the Community Music Association, and am really looking forward to coming back to Charleston to play at the Municipal Auditorium with these other really talented Mountain State musicians," said Landau in a news release.

American Idol semi-finalist Chase Likens will also perform. The Point Pleasant, West Virginia native graduates from Marshall University this spring, and is set to go on tour this summer.

The Davisson Brothers Band is also scheduled to perform, along with Mandolin virtuoso Johnny Staats and his band the Delivery Boys.

Taylor Made and The Carpenter Ants will also take part in the concert.

The West Virginia Music Hall of Fame will also be participating in the concert event, with their Traveling Museum Exhibit on site.
