PT. PLEASANT -

UPDATE APRIL 5

An update to a story we told you about just last week.

Pleasant Valley Hospital has officially implemented the layoffs of 69 employees.

In a statement released to 13News, officials state "most of the departments in the hospital were affected, but we remain adequately staffed to serve the needs of the community."

The statement went on to say the hospital allowed employees to take part in the layoffs voluntarily. "Thirty-two employees choose to voluntarily participate, equating to 46 percent of the total staff reduction."

Employees that were laid off were offered a severance package based on their length of employment.

More job cuts are on the way to our area.

Pleasant Valley Hospital officials told 13News Wednesday layoffs are coming.  A hospital spokesperson told us the number of layoffs, the departments impacted and the implementation of the layoffs will not be announced until April 5.

After a "strategic planning process" hospital officials stated in a news release the layoffs are needed to ensure the medical facility's long-term success.

"In order to carry out this plan, it is with heavy heart that we must implement a reduction in force. We recognize how valuable our staff is to the success of our hospital, and we do not take this action lightly," the news release stated.

The hospital's statement went on to say that because of continued financial challenges it is a necessary step.
