HAMLIN -

Friends are calling the 16-year-old killed in a Tuesday night car wreck "unforgettable."

Brittany Sowards was killed when an 18-wheeler hauling lumber lost control, crossed the Route 119 median and hit the Volkswagen Jetta Soward was in.  Her mother, Betty Soward, was injured in the wreck and remains in critical condition Wednesday.

"[It is] really sad to see someone like her go," said Lenora Bowen, a friend of the family.

Grief counselors were at several Lincoln County schools Wednesday to help students cope with the loss. Soward played tennis and was remembered in a prepared statement as a student everyone loved.

Funeral arrangements have not been made.

The crash is being investigated by the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.
