The United States Postal Service announced that it is accelerating plans to close its Processing and Distribution Center (PDC), located in its facility on Emily Drive in Clarksburg.

The USPS said it is has been losing money the last few years.

"The Postal Service has experienced a 25 percent loss in our mail volume the last five years. In addition to that, we are losing $25 million per day," said Cathy Yarosky, spokesperson for the United States Postal Services.

It said it now needs to find ways to lessen that burden.

"We have to start finding ways to improve our efficiently and make much better use of the space we have nation , our staffing, and all of our transportation," Yarosky said.

One of the ways it's doing that is by consolidating its PDCs.  It has consolidated roughly 200 centers in the last few years.

Operations will move to the Charleston, W.Va., and Pittsburgh, Pa., locations.

The USPS said the consolidations have worked out so far.

"They've been very successful. It's virtually transparent to our customers. In fact, we've been able to maintain our service standards or even improve them in other areas," Yarosky said.

Officials said outgoing and destination operations will be gone from the facility in Clarksburg by the end of summer. Operations were originally scheduled to halt in January 2014.

USPS said nearly 100 people will be affected by the consolidation and it plans to find other jobs for those employees.
