A former Legal Aid of West Virginia ombudsman has pleaded guilty to federal program fraud after fraudulently obtaining more than $90,000 from the federally funded Long Term Care Ombudsman Fund.

U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld said from January 2007 to May 2010, Janel Phillips, 44, of Belington, submitted false mileage claims and time sheets.

Phillips is free on bond and could face a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
