MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- On a cold and dark night at Hawley Field, Marshall baseball lost to West Virginia 10-2.

Marshall dropped to 11-16 on the year and saw the season series draw even at a game apiece.  West Virginia won its seventh straight and improved to 16-13.

Senior centerfielder Isaac Ballou tripled off the right field wall in the top of the fifth to drive in the Herd's only runs of the game.  The triple, his 15th, extended his lead in the Marshall record book and moved him into a second-place tie for Conference USA's career triples mark.  Aaron Bossi and Matt Kirkwood, who had singled to lead the inning off, scored on Ballou's triple after Sergio Leon had sac-bunted them to second and third.

The triple cut into a 5-0 WVU lead as the Mountaineers scored four times in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Bossi finished the game 2-for-3 to lead Marshall's attack.  Ballou went 1-for-4 and extended his streak of reaching base to 19 consecutive games.

Marshall starter Alex Thackston suffered the loss and dropped to 0-2 this season.

WVU catcher Alan Filauro hit two homers as part of a 3-for-3 outing.  The senior drove in four runs and scored four times.  Two other WVU hitters recorded three hits.

Marshall will turn around quickly to meet Eastern Kentucky (5-19) for another midweek game on Wednesday.  First pitch is set for 3 p.m. in Richmond, Ky.
