CHARLESTON, WV -

Six organizations across West Virginia have won grants to support humanities programs from the West Virginia Humanities Council.

The council, the Mountain State's affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, offers grants to nonprofit organizations in West Virginia to support educational programming.

Humanities Council leaders say the council each year budgets more than $600,000 for such grants and programs in the humanities.

Taking home grants — each $1,500 or less — were the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Library, the Harrison County Commission, Shepherd University, the Concord University Research and Development Corp., the Appalachian Forest Heritage Area in Randolph County and the Northern Webster County Improvement Council.
