A Raleigh County man has pleaded guilty in federal court to illegal possession of a firearm, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin.

James David Morris, 34 of Eccles, entered a guilty plea to being an unlawful drug user in possession of a firearm, Goodwin said in the release.

Morris said he knowingly possessed a pistol in Raleigh County in 2012.

He was addicted to oxycodone at the time, court records show.

Morris faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

He will be sentenced August 1.

The West Virginia State Police and FBI handled the investigation.
